Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Surviving the Suicide Disease about?
It’s a memoir about my journey through Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) — the most painful condition known to medicine — using the emotional spectrum of the Lantern Corps (yes, the DC Comics one) as a framework to explore the highs, lows, and everything in between.
2. Why is it called the "Suicide Disease"?
CRPS has earned this nickname due to the extreme, unrelenting nature of the pain and the psychological toll it takes. The name isn't used lightly — it's a reality for many patients who feel invisible and unheard. This book aims to change that.
3. Who is this book for?
Anyone who’s lived with chronic pain, loved someone who has, or struggled to be believed. It’s also for caregivers, medical professionals, Lantern nerds, and humans with big feelings and a beating heart.
4. How are the Lantern Corps involved?
Each chapter is themed around one of the emotional Lantern Corps: Rage, Avarice, Fear, Willpower, Hope, Compassion, Love, Death, and Life. These aren’t just comic metaphors — they became my emotional roadmap through pain and healing.
5. Is this a graphic novel or comic?
Nope — it’s a memoir. But it’s deeply inspired by comic storytelling and symbolism.
6. What is CRPS?
CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) is a rare neurological condition that causes persistent, severe pain, often after an injury. It affects the nervous system and can be life-altering. You can check out the educational sidenotes throughout the book.
7. Where can I get the book?
You can preorder through my Kickstarter here, or subscribe to the newsletter for updates on the publication date, availability, and exclusive signed editions.
8. How can I support the project?
Backing the Kickstarter, sharing the campaign, or even telling one friend about it makes a huge difference. Emotional support counts, too — even if you just send a green lantern emoji. 💚
9. Will there be merch?
Oh yes. Stickers, posters, signed copies, and more.
10. Is this going to be super depressing?
It’s raw. It’s honest. But there’s laughter, light, and so much love. This isn’t just a story of pain — it’s about surviving it. And helping others do the same.
